Before your first session, you will fill out a one-page intake form which we will discuss. Together we will decide the quality and scope of your therapy session.
I will leave the room. You will then undress to the extent that you are comfortable and cover yourself with a sheet and possibly a blanket.
Most likely we will begin with a light touch of holistic nurturing Swedish Massage. As your nerves and tissues become familiar and comfortable with the touch of my hands, gradually I will apply a deeper pressure. The initial warming-up period varies in duration based on your body and personality type, your emotional state and the level of injury, stress or congestion in the muscle and connective tissue fibers.
I will use gentle flowing strokes for relaxation, kneading strokes for releasing surface congestion and immobility, vibration and friction to release congestion in deeper muscles and connective tissues, and gentle rocking joint movements and some stretching to enhance mobility and range of motion.
I will not expect you to talk at all, but I will follow your lead if you have questions or comments, or if you simply want to chat part or all of the time during your session. Some people experience a deeper session by remaining silent. Others may need to release energy by talking. Still others find the experience more rewarding by asking questions and learning all they can about the process as it occurs.
Hopefully I will be able to detect if a stroke or its relative pressure is too light or too deep. However, I may not, and I hope you will speak up at any time during the massage if you are uncomfortable, for any reason, even if you cannot clarify or verbalize it.
